Ordinary Days Prompt: Doors

Hi everyone! We're starting a new photo prompt series where we will be learning to see, preserve and celebrate ordinary memories, moments, objects and feelings.

Our first prompt is: DOORS

Here’s a few things to think about while taking photos or choosing photos to submit!

Suggest Narrative

If possible, try to learn the story behind the door and incorporate that into the photograph. This could be as simple as including a sign or plaque that explains the history of the door, or as creative as composing the photograph to suggest a narrative.

Light & Shadow

Experiment with the lighting to bring out the details. Shadows can add depth and dimension to the image, while direct sunlight can create a contrast that highlights the textures and details.

Texture

Pay close attention to the textures, such as the grain of the wood, any cracks or patinas, and the reflections in the glass. Highlighting these details can give character and tell its story.

Show Surrounding

Documenting the door within the context of its environment, such as its location within a building or surrounded by lush greenery, can give a sense of place and history.

Details

Zoom in on specific details, such as a doorknob, handle, or keyhole. These small details can add interest to the image and give a glimpse into the history and functionality.
